David holding a door handle made partly from old tram cable. David MacDonald has been a blacksmith for over thirty years. As a 10 year old boy he gravitated toward working with metal in his parents' business. His interest in metalwork continued and in equestrian college he learned how to shape horse shoes with hammer and anvil.

Shortly after college David began to study with American and European masters. His training took him to England, France, Germany and Switzerland, as well as different locations around the United States. David received his master blacksmith diploma from a metalworkers' guild in northern France. Since then his work has taken him around the U.S. and to Europe.

David lives and works in Los Lunas in Valencia County, New Mexico, about 20 miles south of Albuquerque.
